Question - What are you trying to discover?   A scientific question usually starts with: How, What, When, Who, Which, Why, or Where. Here are some characteristics of a good science fair project question:
The question should be interesting enough to read about, then work on for the next few weeks.
There should be at least three sources of written information on the subject. You want to be able to build on the experience of others!
The question should contain one factor (variable) that you can change in your experiment and at least one factor (variable) that you can measure.
Materials - List all materials you will use conducting your experiment.
Hypothesis - Hypothesis is an idea or explanation that can be tested with an investigation. It is your prediction about what will happen in your experiment.

Results - Explain what happened in your project.
Conclusion - Was your hypothesis correct?  Did you prove or disprove your hypothesis?

Hello Parents and Guardians!

I hope everyone is having a great CHRISTmas break. Before break, I mentioned to the students about a Science Fair Project and that if they wanted to they could start on it over break. Depending on what they choose for their project determines the length of time needed to finish their project. I am attaching some details and guidelines for the project and a sample board to help the students decide what to do.

Science Fair Project will be due February 8th. That should give the students plenty of time to decide what they want to do and carry out the experiment.
* Students should do their project on a trifold board.
*Students need pictures of their project, but no pictures of their faces can be on the project.

Here is a link that explains the elements that need to be on the board and also has some ideas for the projects. Please look under Science Fair Project Guide tab to see the steps in detail.
https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science-fair-projects/science-fair

We will do some sample projects in class to refresh the students' memories on the steps of the scientific method and what needs to be included on their projects.

We will have a science fair at school and their projects will be judged. We will have a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each category.

Thank you,
Mrs. Lett

September 28, 2017 - Gala Basket Information

The Annual St. John’s Gala will be Saturday, November 4th.  Each class participates by collecting items for a themed basket that will be auctioned off at the gala.  The 4th grade theme this year is "All Things Fall."  Below are some suggested items to include in the basket:

·         Portable fire pit

·         Fall/Thanksgiving decorations

·         Fall scented candles (pumpkin spice, apple cider, etc.)

·         Baking items, pot holders, cookie cutters

·         Scarves

·         Cozy blanket

·         Mugs, coffee and hot chocolate

·         Apple cider

·         Ingredients for s'mores

If you are able to contribute, we would like to have all donations in by Friday, October 20th so the class has enough time to assemble the basket.

Thank you,

Mrs. Lett

Hello Parents/Guardians!

Class Dojo - We almost have 100% of both 4th and 5th grade classes signed up for ClassDojo.  Please check daily for announcements and your child's behavior.

AR/AM - Students should be reading every night about 20 mins.  If they have internet access, they can work on AM too.  This will keep them caught up and give them practice on skills from class.

Reading - We will be starting a book study this week.    The book is "What Were the Twin Towers."   I have ordered a book for everyone in the class.  If you would like your child to have their own personal copy to keep and bring home, the book is \$4.00.   The books are in!!  It is NOT required to buy the book.  It will be available for them to use in class.
