Wind and Cold Cannot Stop the Jaguar Crew
Orchard Lake, MI – Chilly temperatures and gusting
winds couldn’t keep the Jaguar Crew from achieving success this past Saturday
in Michigan. Despite choppy water
conditions, the Women’s Novice 8+ won gold on a shortened race course (from 6,000m to 3,000m). The crew of Maggie Sudetic ’13,
Hannah Smith ’14, Karen McGraw ’13, Angelina Morales ’13, Audrey Rieman ’15,
Kayla Moore ’14, Jennifer Bajorek ’12, Casey Sudetic ’13 and coxswain Nina
Ripich ’14 recorded a time of 13:17.54, over 30 seconds faster than the second place crew from Detroit Boat Club. The Novice 8+ B finished 5th, finishing before crews from Northville High School, Detroit Boat Club and Skyline Crew.
As the morning went on, winds around Orchard Lake picked up. After reevaluating the race course, it was deems unsafe to continue racing. The Novice 4+ race (along with seven other events) were canceled.
The SJA Crew will race one more time this fall when the team travels to Columbus, OH for the Speakmon Memorial Regatta on October 15th.
