Knowing Your Students to Create an Empathetic Classroom 
(September 8)

Topic and Objectives
-Teachers will be able to identify issues facing students
-Teachers will understand the importance of empathizing with students’ diverse situations and conflicts that they face.

The Framework for Great Schools (September 21)

Topic and Objectives
-Teachers will reflect on current school-wide strengths we can build upon in the upcoming school year to support The Framework for Great Schools across our school
-We will recognize the implications this vision has for teacher practice in the 2015-16 school year by assessing our needs and setting goals.
-Understand the core elements of the Framework and how they align with the Citywide Expectations from previous years, with the shared understanding that at the center of the Framework is student achievement.

SISCL’s 2015-16 Professional Learning Inquiry Cycle (September 21)

Topic and Objectives
Introduce teachers to SISCL’s Professional Learning Inquiry Cycle with the understanding that Cycles of Inquiry are embedded in the Framework for Great Schools.
Share the results from our 2014-15 Professional Learning Survey with the staff.
Explain the protocols in place for each stage of Inquiry we will engage in during our cycle.

GoQuest/Renzulli Learning Refresher (September 28)

Topic and Objectives
-Introduce teachers to GoQuest which has taken the best of what they are familiar with in Renzulli and modernized it to help teachers differentiate for the students’ learning style
-Review the updates and improved functionality of the Renzulli Profiler
-Deep dive into creating groups 
-Introduction to new features such as the 14 categories of activities they can chose to assign for each lesson.
-Refresher regarding the navigation of the website to find enrichment and CCSS-based activities.

Core Collaborative and The EmpowerED Learner: The Formative Assessment Process in Action (Cycle 1: October 19 - December 7)

Topic and Objectives
-Teachers will be able to define the characteristics of an “EmpowerED Learner”
-Teachers will unpack our “focus” Common Core Standards to create Clear Purposeful Learning Intentions both independently and with our Professional Learning Community
-Teachers will be able to make learning visible by providing students Models of Success -Exemplars of the Standard 
-Teachers will be able to provide the protocols that will facilitate student analysis of the Models of Success.
-Teachers will understand that the work they need to do to be successful is the SUCCESS CRITERIA!
-Teachers will understand that they can provide the time and tools for students to read the Common Core Standards and unpack them by co-constructing their own “I Can Statements”
-Teachers will understand that the Models of Success provide the background needed.
-Teachers will know the tools they can use to enable students to create their own Success Criteria to reflect and set goals.

Understanding and Managing Challenging Behaviors: Delivered by Wediko Children’s Services (November 3)

Topic and Objectives
-Teachers will gain understanding of trauma
-Teachers will gain understanding of the Automatic Stress Responses: Fight, Flight, or Freeze
-Teachers will understand strategies to first calm down a student who is afflicted with Automatic Stress Responses.
-Teachers will understand and explore the Hierarchy of Interventions. 
-Teachers will learn protocols to process individual students’ behaviors and deescalate the situation.
