SISCL Web Tools and Online Resources (September 26, 2016)

Teachers will be able to use the Leader in Me Website to enrich and support their implementation of the Leader in Me in all grades and subject area classes.

Teachers will refresh their knowledge of GoQuest and Skedula


Leader in Me Website 

 - Teachers will be re- introduced to the Leader in Me Website and learn how to navigate new areas 
 - Teachers will gain familiarity with activities and resources they can find on the Leader in Me Website

GOQuest Refresher

 - Teachers will explore the resources available through GoQuest to differentiate instruction and support learning for all students.

Skedula Refresher
 - Teachers will navigate Skedula and learn how to include anecdotal.

Word Generation (September 27, 2016)
Teachers who taught the Word Generation Curriculum last year will revisit and refine their understanding of Word Generation implementation. New teachers and 5th grade teachers will be introduced to the Word Generation Curriculum

 - Teachers will review the Word Generation Calendar
 - Teachers in grade 5 and new teachers will be introduced to the systems and protocols aligned with the MSQI’sI Word Generation Program

Therapeutic Crisis Intervention For Schools (TCIS) (October 17 and 24, 2016)

Topics and Objectives
 - Teachers will be able to proactively prevent and or de-escalate potential crisis situation with students
 - Teachers will be able to process a crisis event with students to help improve coping strategies - 
 - Teachers will be able to manage crisis situations to reduce the risk of harm to students and staff.

Sanford Harmony (October 31, 2016 and November 1, 2016)

Teachers will be able to incorporate specialized teaching strategies into classroom activities—from preschool through eighth grade—in an effort to reduce bullying, and help develop the youth of today into tolerant, compassionate, and caring adults for the future.

 - Teachers will understand how the Sanford Harmony social-emotional kits provide opportunities for teachers to engage students in activities to improve student relationships and classroom culture.

Light Sail (November 1, 2016)

Teachers will learn to use Light Sail as an adaptive literacy solution to embed engagement, motivation, assessment and student growth data into a reading experience.

Topics and Objectives

 - Teachers will learn how to use the Light Sail reading program to assess student reading level, engage in comprehension skill acquisition and encourage students to engage in popular young adult literature.
 - Teachers will understand how to manage their classes, their students' assessment data and review the different instructional settings in which Light Sail can be implemented.

Drug Use Awareness Training (November 7, 2016)

Lead by Patricia Tooker, a Tackling Youth Substance Abuse coalition member, teachers will learn key “look-fors” to help identify students who may by using or at-risk of using drugs and alcohol. The Tackling Youth Substance Abuse (TYSA) Initiative is a cross-sector coalition aimed at driving major improvements in youth substance abuse on Staten Island, with the ultimate goals of decreased use of alcohol and prescription drugs and youth making healthy choices overall. 

Topics and Objectives

 - Teachers will learn drug awareness strategies as well as key signs students may be involved in drug-related activities.

Seven Habits / Leader in Me Booster Shot  (November 8, 2016)

To sustain the effectiveness of our Seven Habits / Leader in Me leadership process, teachers will receive a fresh look at Steven Covey’s Seven Habits for Highly Effective People and learn how to help students use the habits to set academic and personal goals.

Topics and Objectives

- Teachers will receive new training about incorporating the Seven Habits in their professional lives and in classroom activities. 
- Teachers will learn how to use the Leader in Me curriculum to help students write effective goals.

Introduction to SISCL’s 2016-17 Professional Learning Inquiry Cycle (November 14, 2016)

Teachers will celebrate past accomplishments, reflect on their survey data and gain an understanding of our 2016-17 Professional Learning Inquiry Cycle

Quantitative Data Analysis  (December 6, 2016)

Teachers will learn and practice collecting and analyzing data used to assess the effect of our Professional Learning Inquiry Focus on Student Achievement and determine next steps for students and teachers.

Professional Learning Inquiry Cycle 1: Increasing Student Achievement by Making Common Core Learning Standard Progressions Visible (December 12, 2016 - March 6, 2017)

Teachers will understand Learning Progressions and the impact that they can have on scaffolding lessons and grouping students. Teachers will view videos that demonstrate teachers and students using Learning Progressions that meet all students needs and make learning visible. Impact Teams will explore their subject’s Common Core Learning Progressions and begin planning 

Topics and Objectives

 - Teachers will be able to define Common Core Learning Progressions and understand how they can help scaffold student learning – Differentiate and Enrich 
 - Teachers will be able to determine what their FOCUS Learning Progressions should be by analyzing data and curriculum 
 - Teachers will be able to explore their Focus Common Core Aligned Learning Progressions in their Subject Area by visiting Learning Progression Websites
 - Teachers will be able to explore and brainstorm Pedagogical Strategies and Protocols to enhance their instruction and impact student achievement by using Common Core Learning   
    Progressions.

Service Learning 

(Match 27, 2017)

Teacher leaders will explain their experiences and the process involved with service learning and turnkey their professional learning from their work with the Service Learning Institute. Teachers will be able to plan together to include service learning in their units of study and work toward our school-wide service learning goal.

Professional Learning Inquiry Cycle 2: Deepening Learning Progressions with Growth Mindset and ELL Support

(April 3, 2017- June 5, 2017)

Teachers will continue to deepen their inquiry study of Learning Progressions with a focus on supporting ELLs and embedding growth mindset strategies to build their classroom culture and students’ intrinsic motivation to move through their progressions. Teachers will continue to develop, test and share home-grown resources to support inquiry work and address data-driven next steps from Cycle 1.

Topics and Objectives

 - Teachers will strengthen their understanding and implementation of Common Core Learning Progressions based on data analysis and reflection from Cycle 1

 - Teachers will strengthen and enrich their understanding of growth mindset strategies to foster persistence for students to move up in their learning progression.

 - Teachers will strengthen and enrich their understanding of second language literacy strategies to support ELLs progression to and above grade-level Common Core Standards.

 - Teachers will continue to develop data collection protocols, success criteria and instructional material to add to our school’s instructional support website library.
