Title I funds may be used to provide children with opportunities that enrich our educational program and help them meet challenging state performance standards. Parent Involvement is very important in a Title I Schoolwide Building and we strive to do our best. If you would like to help with different programs and activities, please let us know, the help is always appreciated.
Family Events: Every quarter this year, every classroom teacher will have a Family Event. This could be whole school, grade-wide, or individual classrooms. If you have any ideas or would like to help, please share with your child's classroom teacher, the Title I teacher, or administration.
Battle of the Books: This is a Reading Program for students in grades 4-8. Students have to read 20 books as a team of 3-4 students and be ready to answer questions on them on the day of the Battle. On the day of the Battle, teams compete against each other. Instead of taking a quiz on each book, the teams are given a question such as: In which book did....take place? and they have to write the name of the book and author. The team with the most points goes on to do the State Battle of the Books contest. We have been doing this for a few years and it always is amazing how much the students can remember and how much they get into reading. After the Battle is done, the teams hand in their books which are put in the Resource Room for all students to read (they get a lot of use). http://www.wemta.org/programs/battle_of_the_books.cfm
Spelling Bee: The Spelling Bee is for grades 2nd-8th grade. Classes have individual spelling bees and select one winner (2-3 per grade level). These winners compete in the Schoolwide Spelling Bee.
PreK Family Nights: Our PreK teachers collaborate with PreK parents to put on family nights about once a month for families with students enrolled in our Prekindergarten program. Some of these events are open to the entire school including our favorite: Movie Night.
