Why was my child selected to receive extra help?
Your child was selected because classroom performance, teacher recommendation or test results showed that he/she would benefit from additional instruction.
Will my child always be in Title I?
Because we are a Schoolwide Title I Program, every student is technically a Title I student until they graduate. If your child was selected to receive extra help, the time each student receives differs depending on the student and the skill they are receiving additional help with. Some students may come only for a few weeks and others may continue to receive additional help for a much longer time. Our goal is to help students be successful at their grade level.
What is expected of a parent/guardian who has a child receiving addtional help through Title I?
You, as the parent or guardian, are the most important teacher in your child's life. Cooperation and communication between home and school is very important for you child's success. If your child is receiving additional help at school, please reinforce this skill at home. If your child struggles with reading, make sure they read at home and/or you read to them every day. If your child struggles a concept in math, ask a teacher or find ways to review the skill at home as well. (One example is money, which many children struggle with. Have your child count the change in your pocket or purse and if they get it right, they get to keep it.)
How can I be more involved?
Title I is about improving student achievement through the school and with parents. You are an important part of our Title I program and can help in a variety of ways, even if your child isn't receiving extra support-remember, every child is a Title I student. One way is to join our Leadership Team that meets throughout the year. Another way is to come to our Title I community meetings. In the fall, we hold an orientation meeting to review the Schoolwide Title I program and in the spring we hold an annual review meeting to analyze student academic growth and needs and plan for the following year. Another way is to give us your feedback and input. We value constructive feedback that will help our program and students be the best they can. Title I Family Activities also provide a great way to connect more with the Title I program and help you be part of your child's education. Please contact us if you would like more information about being involved and check out the calendar for dates of meetings and activities.
