Welcome!

Welcome to Ms. Swingle's site!  I am thrilled to be returning as your school counselor for the 2019-2020 school year.  Here you will find information about the school counseling program, news and events, and other useful information and resources.

Emergency Closure and Virtual Schooling

As a community, we are all adjusting to being away from school, managing new routines and responsibilities from home, and trying to cope with the worry and uncertainty of what is going on around us.

My hope is to keep us connected and provide support during these challenging times. Although it may look a lot different than we are used to, I am still here to answer questions, help problem solve, and offer a space to safely talk about feelings.

Please email me (jaimie.swingle@shrsd.org) if I can be of support to you or your child.  Check back periodically for information and resources related to social-emotional learning and navigating through this challenging time.

Coffee with the Counselors
  • Parent information sessions highlighting current trends and topics related to children's mental health and social-emotional development.
  • Coffee with the Counselors events will be hosted at night periodically throughout the school year.  Keep an eye out for upcoming dates and more information!
All School Assemblies/Classroom Buddy Projects
  • Take place the first Friday of each month starting in October
  • Monthly morning meetings that promote connectedness and a positive school culture/climate
  • Reinforcement of our character education program and monthly character traits
  • Recognition of individual student and class achievements
  • Upper and lower wing students will come together monthly to complete a project after each assembly.
What do school counselors do?
School counselors work with school staff, parents, and the community to help students have a more positive and successful school experience.  We work with ALL students to help develop the self-awareness, social skills, and coping strategies to effectively navigate through their elementary school years and beyond. This is accomplished through:
  • Individual counseling
  • Small group counseling
  • Classroom guidance lessons
  • School-wide events and activities focused on character building
  • Consultation and collaboration with staff, students, and families to develop academic interventions and supports
  • Crisis intervention and response
  • Providing information and resources to parents and families
