It is our goal to provide a climate for all students to experience the skills they need to become caring and responsible citizens of our community. We strive to deliver the best possible education to our students.

  • 2017-18 Open House Schedule
    Kindergarten Orientation is as follows:
    Oaklyn - Wednesday, August 23rd - 5:30 p.m.
    Priestley - Thursday, August 31st - 5:30 p.m.
    Chief Shikellamy - Thursday, August 31st - 5:30 p.m.
    Beck - Wednesday, August 30th - 5:00 p.m.

    Open house for ALL Elementary Schools for remaining grade levels will be Wednesday, August 30th - 
    Grades 1st & 2nd will be from 6:00-6:45 p.m. 
    Grades 3rd through 5th will be from 6:45 - 7:30 p.m.

    Shikellamy Middle School Open House will be as follows:
    Grade 6 will be held on on August 22nd 6:00 - 7:30 pm
    Grades 7 & 8 will be held on August 23rd from 6:00 - 8:00 pm

    Shikellamy High School Open House will be held on August 31st from 5:00 - 6:30 pm with a meeting at 6:30 pm in the auditorium regarding Chromebooks for incoming freshman and new students.

    Any citizen of this Commonwealth, having a good moral character, being eighteen (18) years of age or upwards, and having been a resident of the district for at least one (1) year prior to the date of his election or appointment, shall be eligible for the office of school director.

    The appointee will serve the unexpired portion of the vacant seat until the school board election in November 2017. The unexpired term is until December 2017.

    Letters of application, which will be received at the Island Park Administration Center until August 8, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. EST, should be addressed as follows:

    Letters of application should include name, address, and telephone number (day and evening).
    Interviews will be held on August 10, 2017 at 7:00 pm at IPAC. Applicants are expected to attend. The applicant should clearly indicate any scheduled conflict.

    The board will appoint one candidate for the vacancy established on June 30, 2017.
    Applicants should be available for one (1) regular meeting and two (2) work sessions per month, as well as occasional special committee meetings that may be held.

  • Volunteer Information

    The Shikellamy School District values and appreciates each of our volunteers.  In preparation of a new school year, we want you to be as informed as possible.  As a result of some changes in the law, all prospective volunteers must obtain the following clearances:

    · Report of criminal history from the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP)


    · Child Abuse History Clearance from the Department of Human Services (Child Abuse).


    Additionally, a fingerprint based federal criminal history (FBI) submitted through the Pennsylvania State Police or its authorized agent is required if:

     · The volunteer has lived outside the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the last 10 years.


    Volunteers who are not required to obtain the FBI Clearance because they are applying for an unpaid position and have been a continuous resident of Pennsylvania for the past 10 years must swear or affirm in writing that they are not disqualified from service based upon a conviction of an offense under §6344.  The following form must be signed in the presence of school personnel.

  • School Board Update

    At the July 13, 2017 Regular Board meeting, the Board of Education acted on the following:

    • Accepted the resignation of Michael Stepp as a School Board Director effective June 30, 2017 and authorized the Board Secretary to advertise the vacancy to be filled at the August 10, 2017 voting meeting.
    • Appointed Dr. James P. Hartman to serve as Substitute District Superintendent during the absence of the District Superintendent.
    • Appointed Elizabeth Deitrick as High School Guidance Counselor and Tiara Bartol as an Elementary Teacher.
    • Appointed Damian Rojas as an ELL Interpreter
    • Did not approve the resolution as discussed at the public hearing earlier in the evening, repealing the occupation tax and restating and amending a resolution imposing a tax on earned income and net profits of individual residents of the Shikellamy School District via Referendum at the November 7, 2017 Municipal Election and becoming effective July 1, 2018.
    • Accepted the resignation of Amy Manuszak as a cafeteria aide and Crystale D. Keller as a crossing guard.
    • Approved the second reading of BP 246 - School Wellness
