6th Grade Homework

  • Tuesday, 3/21/17 We conducted writers' conferences today to discuss the thesis statement that each student completed as homework yesterday.  Using the approved thesis, write 1 of the 3 body paragraphs by end of in-class work time tomorrow. Industrial Revolution foldable will be due by the end of class tomorrow as well.

  • Monday, 3/20/17 We discussed current events and worked on forming an opinion based on the information in an article.  We also discussed the importance of a quality thesis statement for each essay.  We are working on a 5 paragraph essay and the thesis statement is the first step.  Draft your thesis statement using the handout from class by tomorrow so we can conference about them during class. Due 3/21.

  • Thursday, 3/16/17 We discussed the structure of the introduction and conclusion in an essay.  The notes are in the INB's and they are attached as pdf's here. Homework:Read and annotate the article "The Effects of the Industrial Revolution".  Begin doing some research about your topic for the 5 paragraph essay that we will be writing in class next week.

  • Wednesday, 3/15/17 We continued our discussion of prewriting strategies and then we practiced creating a web to help us organize our thoughts.  The web is due tomorrow.  Students should also begin thinking about the topic that they would like to write a 5 paragraph essay about.  We will begin drafting that after Spring Break.

  • Tuesday, 3/14/2017 We had a binder and locker clean-out during class today so everyone should be a little more organized now!  We also discussed the Romantic Revolution and compared it to the Enlightenment.  Then we analyzed a poem from the time period.  Read your own choice novel for 30 minutes and then write a minimum of two sentences to summarize what you read.  Due tomorrow.

  • Thursday, 3/16/15 We began a unit about short stories and we discussed the various types of conflicts in fiction and the four different types of Point of View. There will be a quiz over this information so study it over the weekend! See the attached notes

  • Wednesday, 3/15/17 We began drafting a paragraph using one of the subtopics from our prewriting web.  We will continue to practice drafting paragraphs and essays and we will use a variety of prewriting techniques.   We also began some research on the Geneva Convention of 1949.  Homework:  Complete your paragraph by 3/16/17.  Geneva Convention is due 3/20/17.

  • Wednesday, 3/15/17 We finalized our projects for our Core Knowledge Event and we drafted body paragraphs using our prewriting webs.  Homework: Wear uniform or better for the event.  A make-up free dress day will be held for 8th grade only on Tuesday, 3/21. We hope to see you all at the CKE from 1:30 to 2:30 in the Humanities classroom!

  • Thursday, 3/9/17 We discussed prewriting techniques and the various ways we could use them to improve our writing.  Homework: Finalize research project for our Core Knowledge Event on 3/16.  The projects are due Wednesday, 3/15, and there will only be about 30 minutes of work time in class on Monday.
