Hawks View PreKindergarten is at full enrollment for the 2020/21 school year.  Families interested in being placed on our waiting list may fill out the Interest Form in the right hand column.  Your child's name will be added to the list and we will contact you if/when space becomes available.

You may email Errin Esparza, program coordinator, with questions not answered here or below:

All students, regardless of income, may be considered for enrollment into our PreK class.  Please continue reading to learn more about our program, who can enroll, and how we determine which children to enroll when the number of potential students exceeds space in our classes.

Hawks View will use Title I funds to run a tuition-free Pre-Kindergarten program.  We teach social and behavioral skills needed to be a successful learner, as well as the basic academic content needed to start kindergarten confidently.  Our class runs for two and a half hours a day, five days a week.

Because there is limited space in our Pre-Kindergarten class, we gather as much information as possible to determine which potential students are in need of our program the most to help him or her be ready for kindergarten.

To even be considered for Hawks View PreK, students must:
  • live within the Hawks View boundaries.  You can check our district address locator tool here to determine if your home address is within those boundaries.
  • turn four years old on or before September 1 of the school year in question.
  • be toilet trained.

If your child fits the above criteria, there are certain "automatic qualifications" for our Pre-Kindergarten program as long as we are not at full enrollment already.  Be prepared to provide documentation if any of the following is true for your child.

He or she:
  • participated in a Head Start or Title I-funded preschool program anytime within the last two years.
  • received migrant education services within the last two years.
  • falls under thMcKinney-Vento guidelines (homeless, including living with family members temporarily due to financial hardship).
  • attended a community day program or a local institution for neglected or delinquent children.

For children who can not automatically enroll, we collect information about them to determine which students are in the greatest need of our program in order to be ready for kindergarten.  The following is a list of the information we collect to determine which potential students to offer enrollment to first.
  • Academic assessment (given at PreK Information Night)
  • Current or prior Early Intervention services
  • Home Language Survey
  • Ages & Stages Questionnaire (ASQ-3)
  • Income qualification
  • Parent questionnaire
You may believe that your child will not be in the most need of our PreK in comparison to his or her peers, but we encourage you to go through the process because we have enrolled kids with all levels of ability in prior years.  If we do have more children interested than we have space, we will create a waiting list and enroll students as space becomes available.

We would appreciate you spreading the word to other families within the Hawks View boundaries about our Pre-Kindergarten class.  If you have any other questions, please contact Hopkins' (Hawks View) Pre-Kindergarten coordinator, Errin Esparza.
