Community Education and Community Services

The Community Education Office and Community Service Office are made up of several departments:

  • Community Education & Drivers Ed
  • Use of Facilities (Community Services)
  • Shen Summer Adventures
  • Friends of Shen Volunteer Program

The Community Education Office offers a wide variety of classes for the community, from aquatics to art to investing.  Driver Ed is also coordintated through Community Ed.  Brochures with course listings are mailed to district residents, and are provided online as well.  We now offer the opportunity to register for courses online.  All questions can be directed to Community Ed's main email:, Kim Pottenburgh at  or Julie Keene at Phone # 518-881-0444.

Use of Facilities is coordinated through the Community Services Office by Amy Cullen, Community Service Coordinator and Jill Galarneau, Community Services Secretary.  We can be reached via phone at 518-881-0612 or via email at and The district's school buildings and grounds are maintained primarily for the purpose of educating students and supporting school-related activities within the district.  However, we realize that they are a valuable community resource that should be available for specific uses that will not interfere with school activities.  Click here for more information on the terms and conditions of such use, as well as the procedures for reserving/renting Shen's facilities during after school, evening and weekend hours.

Shen Summer Adventures is a summer enrichment program run through the Community Education Office.  We provide courses for our youth in various areas, such as Summer Musical Theater and SEEC enrichment camp, just to name a few.

Friends of Shen Volunteer Program provides an opportunity for Capital Region adults to volunteer in our schools and provide a valuable resource to our local elementary and secondary school age youth.  We are looking for volunteers now!  Please become a Friend of Shen and help augment our dedicated parent base.  Our schools are seeking folks from all walks of life, from college students to senior citizens.  Our students would love to have you share your experiences, special interests and talents with them!  Every effort will be made to match volunteer's interests with our students' needs.  Click here to download the volunteer application, interest survey and confidentiality agreement, and find out more about this important program.  Make a difference in a child's life!
