Autumn 2016 Competition for CIV2200 and CIV223 Students
This competition required Y2 students to produce a video of up to 5 minutes in length, explaining conceptually how an 'everyday object' of their choice works structurally. Links to the four videos which students voted as their favourites are below, including the video produced by the winners, Group 18:

Spring 2016 Competition - Hospital Entrance Canopy
This competition is open until 9am on Monday 11th April, giving you a whole two months (including the entire Easter vacation) to figure out how the entrance canopy structure at the Royal Hospital in Chesterfield works conceptually, as shown on the attached photographs (filename = 'Spring 2016 - Photos.pdf').
Autumn 2015 Competition - Roadsign
Congratulations go to Carolyn Wright and Jose Poyan Rodriguez, who are the joint winners of the Autumn 2015 competition, which involved explaining how the slightly unconventional road sign shown below works structurally. Carolyn and Jose each receive a £15 giftcard for Blackwells (not to mention the associated bragging rights). Copies of their entries are attached.
Both entries were slightly different, with Jose correctly identifying the torsion in the signpost generated by wind loads on the sign (as well as the axial loads, bi-axial bending moments and shears about both axes), whilst Carolyn's presentation style and format was particularly impressive.
