"Following the light of the sun, we left the Old World."

Once again, the teachers at Wilson enjoyed varied options for their professional learning to push their thinking and skill sets, and as Columbus said, "Following the light of the sun, we left the Old World." As Wilson School District enters another year of a full 1:1 learning environment, more teachers are "hitting their stride" with effectively and innovatively leveraging technology in the classroom. The teachers had a chance to see many learning experiences of our K-12 students during a 30-minute keynote by Dr. Amy Flannery & Chris McCaffrey in the morning. This presentation (see below) features many of our classrooms where our students are using their voice as well as given choice in their learning. The importance of offering students time for reflection and opportunities for innovation allows the students to develop crucial critical thinking skills to ask questions and challenge what they read, see and experience. The examples exhibited how Wilson students are not only problem-solvers but problem finders while connecting their learning beyond the classroom walls and helping them self-assess their understanding.
