The visual art program at Shaftsbury Elementary School integrates with the class room teachers, Librarian, Music teacher and SPED Program. It is an integrative program in which the art curriculum is woven into the art projects to connect with the units being studied in the classrooms.
This year in Art the Theme is "Getting to know a Famous Artist." The students will learn about a new artist every month and their art style and artwork. The students art lessons will then be inspired by that artist. We will be learning how to look at paintings and sculptures of portraits, still-life's, and landscapes. The student art work will be displayed in the halls of Shaftsbury through out the school year! They will also be displayed on this web site.
Each class has Art once a week for 45 mins.
Students artwork will also have the opportunity to be displayed in the community Art Shows.
The annual Student Art Show takes place at the Bennington Museum. Student artwork from kindergarten through grade 12 from many area schools will be on display. Shaftsbury School will be well represented with examples of a variety of artwork from all grades. Another show will follow at the Southwestern Medical Center in the spring. It will feature student artwork from the Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union district.
