Cookstown Fr. Rocks: 2-10

Eglish: 0-04

Our minor boys faced Eglish St Patrick’s in their first away game of the season on Sunday coming away with 2 points. After a slow enough start, they soon settled in with points from Dylan Coyle and Dean Teague, ending the half on a score of 0-05 to 0-01. The second half opened with a spur of energy from the lads with Dean Teague scoring a super goal and then a later penalty. Further points from Dylan Coyle and Conor O’Neill widened the gap between the teams to put Cookstown comfortably in the lead. The whole team pulled together at this stage to close out the game, winning on a score line of 2-10 to 0-04.  The lads played brilliantly, most notably, Ryan Mullan who really came into his own in the match, excelling in his new role and having a clinker of a game! Dean Teague also had a fantastic game, being crowned top scorer for the game, scoring an impressive 2-05 out of the 2-10. However there is no doubt that Man of the Match went to Ronan Donnelly who played absolutely superb in full back, marking the Academy’s Mark Donnelly.

Comhghairdeas lads on a super performance.

Seniors defeat Ardboe
Fr Rocks seniors defeated Ardboe 2-13 to 0-11 in the All County League clash at Paddy Cullen Park on Sunday afternoon. The visitors opened the scoring in the third minute, but Fr Rocks took control of the contest with points from Owen Mulligan, Ruairi Mullan and Conor O'Hare, before Owen Mulligan found the net on 16 minutes to leave the score 1-4 to 0-2. Further points from Mulligan (free) and Conor O'Hare stretched the gap to seven points, before an Ardboe free left the scoreline 1-6 to 0-3 at the break. The visitors opened the scoring in the second half, but a Ryan Pickering point from play was followed by a great goal from Conor Mullan. A superb point from Matthew Carberry opened up a ten point lead, and Raymond Mulgrew responded with a great point after the visitors scored their second of the half. Cookstown were guilty of going to sleep over the next ten minutes as Ardboe kicked five points in a row, the Rocks however kicked the last three scores of the game, Raymond Mulgrew x2, and Marty Hughes, to secure the two points. Fr Rocks scorers - R Mulgrew 0-4, C O'Hare 0-2, O Mulligan 1-3, C Mullan 1-0, R Pickering 0-1, M Hughes 0-1, M Carberry 0-1, R Mullan 0-1.

Seniors defeat Donaghmore

posted Aug 3, 2014, 2:01 PM by Martin McGirr

Cookstown 1-7 Donaghmore 0-7
Donaghmore were the visitors to Paddy Cullen Park on Sunday afternoon, in a crucial league game for both sides. With conditions very difficult due to heavy rain, it proved to be a war of attrition in the first half, with the score finishing 2-1 to the home side, following first half scores from Conor Mullan and the impressive Matthew Carberry. The match sparked into life in the second half, the visitors levelled the game after twenty seconds, but Owen Mulligan kicked a great score from play minutes later. Donaghmore kicked two unanswered points to open a 4-3 lead, but scores from Owen Mulligan and Raymond Mulgrew put Fr Rocks ahead. The visitors equalised, before a brilliant goal from Marty Murray on forty five minutes put three between the sides. The teams exchanged scores throughout the remainder of the game, with Brian Mulligan and Raymond Mulgrew the Cookstown marksmen, as they held on to secure two vital league points. Final score 1-7 to 0-7.  Cookstown scorers - M Murray (1-0), O Mulligan (0-2,1free), R Mulgrew (0-2), C Mullan (0-1) B Mulligan (0-1), M Carberry (0-1).

Reserves defeated
Fr Rocks reserves were defeated by a point on a final scoreline of 1-5 to 0-9. In a game played in very difficult conditions it was a good performance from a very young Cookstown side.

Fr Rocks celebrate 125 Weekend in Style

posted Jul 12, 2014, 6:30 AM by Martin McGirr   [ updated Jul 14, 2014, 9:12 AM ]

Friday Night Lights!
Fr Rocks 125 Weekend celebrations got underway on Friday night, with a series of events hosted at Paddy Cullen Park to celebrate this landmark year. A challenge match was played between Fr Rocks and Granemore St Mary's from Armagh. A club with strong links to Fr Rock. We would like to thank the Granmore club for taking part in the challenge game. The game was followed by a BBQ and live music in the marquee. We would like to thank Liam McSloy and the other musicians for providing the live music.

Sunday Fun Day.
The celebrations continued into Sunday, when the day began with a special club mass, followed by a parade through the town. A fun day was held at Paddy Cullen Park, which proved to be a big hit with the kids. There was a penalty kick competition, bouncy castles, kids trains and live music provided by Donal Canavan and Ryan McGarrity. The evening saw a special challenge game between a Fr Rocks legends select and some of the current team. With the legends running out winners on a scoreline of 4:08 to 2:11. It was a great weekend and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all involved.

Thanks
Special thanks to our hard working 125 fun day sub committee of Sharon, Ita and Heather, thanks also to our club sponsor Dominic Crilly for his support. We would like to thank everyone involved in a great weekend, from those who provided the music, the bands in the parade, Mulligan Bar and everyone who played a part in the various events that have helped make our 125 Year one to remember. You can see more photos of the weekend on our club twitter and facebook pages.
