Using scripts in InDesign, cut one photo into pieces of a puzzle. Remember David Hockney?
If you don't mind blowing up your Instagram page, you can make a really cool profile page by tiling your individual posts into one image, like this:
I will write out the dimensions to do the above, which involves committing to posting on instagram.
1. Choose your image. I chose this one, even though the aspect ration is off. Consider that you will ultimately fill a portrait orientation that is 12 1x1 photos, running 3 columns wide and 4 rows.
Open an Indesign document that is 3 inches wide, and 4 inches high.
Place your photo, and then open the scripts panel, by going to WINDOW > Utilities > Scripts. Open the APPLICATION option, and then SAMPLES. Select JAVA SCRIPT, and locate MakeGrid. Tell your grid to be 4 rows, 3 columns, and select desired gutter.
Now that you have your image divided into sections, open a new
document that is of sqaure dimensions (I did a 5x5) and make it 12 pages long. This is crucial for keeping your images in order. Copy and paste each section in order onto your pages.
Once you are done, export the 12-pg file to .jpgs, maintaining the page separation.
You will end up with 12 jpg pieces, that you will now upload in reverse, starting with #12.
File>EXPORT to prompt this menu.
Be sure to select "Pages"
Your images will export to your desktop, and from there, its up to you to transfer them to your phone or smart device. I use dropbox, so I have a nice folder easily available.
Now you can instagram all 12, one by one, making sure you let your followers know what's up!
The result is pretty cool:
