What: Add yourself- or a friend- into a historical image 

How: Using PS skills to add yourself-or a friend- SEAMLESSLY into a historical image. You are NOT PHOTOBOMBING  the image, you adding yourself thoughtfully and respectfully into the image. Make yourself part of history!

If you are not in a history class, here are some ideas for you:

• WWI

• WWII 

• JKF presidency 1961-1963

• Civil Rights Movement 

• Cold War 1947-1991

• Vietnam War

• Titanic

• Women's Suffrage passed 1919, ratified 1920

• Fall of the Berlin Wall

 Answer the following questions before you start looking up images. This will help you have a better idea of what to search.

1. What are you learning about in your History/ Social Studies classes currently OR what time periods have you learned this year?

2. What time period:

3. Where it take place:

4. Important people of that period.  Name:________   was important because_____________...

5. Look up photos that were taken during that time period.  

   • Propaganda, journalistic images, paintings (of older time period)... do not look up advertisements. 

To get high quality images, when you search on GOOGLE images, use your search tool > size > Large

HOW TO:

STEP 0: Find your historical image

STEP 1: Take a photo of you or a partner. 

• Include props and styling if possible. 

• Be thoughtful about the angle the image was taken at and the lighting to create a seamless fit. 

STEP 2: Add your photo onto the historical image. 

• Using the masking tool, remove excess photographic info. 

• Apply global changes (exposure, contrast, ect...) and filter effects onto your layer to create a smooth, seamless combination of the 2.

Requirements

• All information completed  and on Photo Handout "Historical Context"

• Add yourself/partner to the image

• Added person must be visible in image

• Addition must be seamless. Consider angle, lighting, texture, masking, filter effects...

Here is another example of what TO DO:

• I wore a hat and dress

• I changed the color of my dress from dark to light

• I took a self portrait on self timer

• I stood in the same way they did

• I masked out the studio background

• I masked the table in so it appears that I am standing behind it

• I turned myself black and white

• I added grain to the image of myself

• I used the same flat lighting as in the image
