Here’s a simple refraction photo, which uses a marble to refract the light and make a house look tiny (note that the image is flipped upside down!)
The simplest explanation is the bending of light. There are different ways the light would bend depending on the object that is bending it.
Refraction photography refers to photos that capture a refraction effect, where light is bent in glass, water, or some other surface to make a subject appear very large, very small, or otherwise distorted. Refraction photos can be creative, mind-bending, and just all-around cool.
For this assignment, we will be working with some of the objects below.
To get started:
You’ll need an object that produces the refraction effect.
For this assignment, it is okay to use your smartphone.
Then search around for clothes, paper, posters, etc. that have interesting patterns on them. Set up your shot. Take a variety photographs from different angles.
Take at least 36 images!
Edit your FIVE BEST:
Edit in your phone or LightRoom
1 MUST be a portrait, 1 of a flower/nature, 1 of leading lines or pattern, 1 color, 1 in b/w
Place FIVE onto worksheet and save a copy as JPEG
Submit on Canvas
