1) Why do you give homework?

Homework is assigned so students have an opportunity to practice what they have learned in class.

It also let's us see if students can apply what they have learned on their own (or if need to provide more instruction).

2) When will I have homework?

• You will have homework every night, Monday through Friday.

• Sometimes you may need to work on a project over the weekend to

complete it on time.

3) How much homework will I have?

• You should spend about 40 minutes on homework every night.

4) What homework do I have EVERY night?

Every night, you are expected to:

Read a book for 20 minutes and record your reading in your Reader's Log.

Do Math, Spelling and/or another assignment for 10 minutes

• Math homework is generally 1 - 2 practice pages.

• Spelling homework will vary from day to day

5) I forgot my book/materials in school. What should I do?

• It's your responsibility to bring home your homework notebook and

anything else you need.

• Check to see if the homework is on this website.

6) What if I don't know how to do my homework?

• Homework is practicing what we have already done in class, so

try your best.

• If we see that you tried, then we know how to help you.

• If you can't do the assignment at all, write us a note that

tells us what is confusing you and have a grownup sign it.  (It

is not okay to say, "I didn't get it" - you have to explain what

you're having trouble with.)

7) How do you grade homework?

Homework is corrected and returned to students in a timely

fashion so they can see what they did well and what they still

need to work on.  In some cases,we will ask students to re-do

incomplete or incorrect work.

8) What if I'm absent?

• You are responsible for finding out what you missed in class.

• We don't expect you to do homework if you are not feeling well.

• We do expect you to check with us when you are back in school to see which assignments we want you to make up.

9) How can my grownups help?

Grownups can offer guidance and support, but they should not do YOUR work.

• They should ask to see your Homework Notebook each night to see your

assignments.

• They can help you understand the assignment and see if you are

doing your best work (check for neatness, careless errors).

• Grownups do NOT need to correct your work.

• Homework is one way for us to see if you need help with a

particular skill or strategy.
