AVID PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: AVID is a college readiness system which is an elective course taken during the school day, where students learn organizational and study skills, work on critical thinking and ask probing questions, get academic help from peers and college tutors, and participate in enrichment and motivational activities that help  prepare students to be successful in college. AVID targets students in the academic middle who have the desire to go to college and the willingness to work hard with the appropriate support.

How AVID Works:
-teaches academic skills and behaviors not targeted in other classes

-provides intensive support with in-class tutorials and strong student/teacher relationships

-accelerates underachieving students into more rigorous courses

-creates a positive peer group for students

-develops a sense of hope for personal achievement gained through hard work and determination
