Special Education

The Special Education Department is responsible for the identification, evaluation, programming and placement of children who may have a disability that adversely effects their education and requires specially designed instruction. Our team of school psychology specialists, speech language therapists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists evaluate students and work with school-level teams to determine whether or not a child meets the criteria established by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act IDEA) and Arkansas Department of Education rules and regulations. If the committee agrees that a child qualifies and parents consent for a child to receive services, the team determines what the child's educational needs are and then selects the least restrictive setting for the child's needs to be met.
