        Literacy Night - November 3rd 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.

This week we are finishing our Personal Narrative Essays as we polish our writing through revision, editing and peer critiquing. Writing is a process, not a "once and done." It takes, effort, time and the willingness to make necessary changes so that our writing may improve. The finished, final copy of our narrative assignment is due Friday, November 4th. No need to print them out, students have shared their narratives in Google Docs.

Also this week, we are traveling to, as Rod Serling would say, "a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone."

We will be reading, comprehending, discussing, analyzing, and performing a classic teleplay from our Literature Anthology called "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street." It is a look at the genres of science fiction and drama, and also how controversial social issues of the 1950's were presented to the audience in a thought-provoking way. In addition, it will allow us to use Reader's Theater as a means of bringing the drama to life and comprehending the story through acting and creative expression.

Please attend Literacy Night on Thursday, November 3rd, 6:30-8:00. It's a chance to visit our Book Fair and reinforce the importance of daily independent reading. It's also a chance to gobble up some delicious pie!

Due dates for other homework or assignments are on my calendar. Have a great week!
