Writing Workshop is in full swing as we begin to write about an event in our life that reveals an insight or lesson learned. This type of writing is called a personal narrative. We are choosing our topic, completing our graphic organizer and will read examples of interesting introductions to inspire our own engaging openings. This week, we will begin to type our rough draft using the COW (Computers On Wheels - laptops) in our classroom. We will be concentrating on the traits that make for good writing according to the Common Core rubric: an engaging introduction, an organized telling of our story, detail and description, emotion, dialogue, good grammar, spelling and punctuation, and finally a strong conclusion.

We are reading in Guided Reading groups and employing our annotation skills to help us read the text more deeply and analytically. We are focusing on conflict, character and theme as we also look at author's craft and structure.

    Due dates are as follows:
  • Graphic organizer completed October 19th
  • Rough draft in progress - begin typing as soon as Graphic Organizer is complete
  • Rough Draft  with peer comments October 25th
  • Final copy of Personal Narrative due, November 2nd
