Non-fiction text requires us to use a different set of reading skills and strategies than fiction. As a reader, we need to understand how to read and locate facts and data by navigating informational text structure, graphs, diagrams, captions, and photographs. We also need to discern the difference between central (main) idea and opinion.

We will be reading an article this week entitled "Homeless in America" as we practice these all-important non-fiction reading skills.

Also this week, we will be studying Greek roots, grammar, vocabulary and writing.

Please check the homework calendar for upcoming due dates. As always, students should be reading at least 30 minutes per night in their independent reading books.
