We are nearing the last several chapters of our class novel, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor and the conflicts run deep. This multi-layered novel offers us the chance to study so many important literary elements: theme, symbolism, character analysis, mood, tone, and  figurative language, to name a few. Although we are good readers, we are becoming more analytic readers by digging deep into the text to go beyond literal comprehension.

We will be devoting a great deal of our time to our novel this week. Please look for updated and added homework assignments besides those that are currently on the calendar. They may change depending on how fast we travel through our novel this week. Our students have so many important questions and want to discuss the compelling issues in our novel, it sometimes makes us modify our plans. That's ok - these are teachable moments full of students' thoughts and inquiry that deserve the time spent.

Students will be writing a Constructed Response this week and an Argument Paper next week based on a reoccurring conflict - do people have the right to defend themselves or seek revenge for something done to them by others? Students will be addressing this topic and finding evidence to support their claim.

Their writing assignments will be posted and done in Google Classroom. Links to their assignments and graphic organizers will be available through Google Classroom.
