Weekly Updates‎ > ‎

03. Week of September 11, 2017

Hi Parents/Guardians,

Here's what going on in ELA this week:

1. Word Part Review - We will begin our study of common words parts through a review of suffixes, prefixes, roots and base words.

2. Elements of Fiction - Student will be working on identifying the parts of a story's plot, including exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution and conflict.

3. Memoir writing - The students will be choosing a topic for their first piece of writing, the memoir.  Memoirs are short works of fiction that retell an important event in a person's life.  The students will be taking a look at several examples and choosing their own small moment to write about.  Topics must be chosen by Friday.

4. Notice and Note Signposts - While reading this week, the students will be on the lookout for "Aha Moments," when the main character suddenly realizes something important.  These moments tend to move the plot along or reveal the theme.

Don't forget to have your child read for at least 20-30 minutes each night this week!

Thanks for your help, and have a great rest of your week.
