02. Week of September 5, 2017

Hi Parents/Guardians,

I hope everyone had a restful holiday weekend.  Here's what's going on in 6th grade ELA this week:

1. Independent Reading - Last week a handout went home explaining my policy for independent reading.  Thank you for signing and returning the form.  As a reminder, ALL STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO READ 20-30 MINUTES OF THEIR INDEPENDENT READING BOOK EACH NIGHT AT HOME Monday through Thursday night.  This may take some time to get back into the habit, so they will need your help establishing a routine that works with their after school schedule.

2. Identity Poems- The 6th grade students have been working on answering "What is identity?" in each of their classes.  To explore this theme in ELA, we will be writing Identity Poems.  The students will be given time to draft the poem in class on Wednesday and Thursday, and the final draft will be due on Friday.

3. Parent Survey - As a team, the 6th grade teachers created a survey to help us better get to know our new students.  Since you know your child best, we want to give you a chance to tell us about your child.  Please take a moment to look at the survey, and answer as many questions as you'd like.  This is not mandatory, but we'd love to hear from you!  If you prefer to write out your answers and send them in with your child, that's fine too!  Please submit all responses by Friday, 9/15.

Thanks for all your help, and have a great rest of your week!

Sincerely,
Bridget Welsh
