10. Week of 10/30/17

HI Parents and Guardians,

Here's what's going on in 6th grade ELA this week:

1. Literacy Night this THURSDAY - WMS Family Literacy Night is Thursday, 11/2 from 6:30 to 8:00.  Please join us for a fun evening to celebrate our love of books.  The WMS book fair will be open that night as well, so you can get a head start on your holiday shopping!  Students, parents and siblings are all welcome!  Free pie will be served to all who attend!  Please see the flyer for more information.

2. Character Analysis - The students will be analyzing the character traits of the protagonist in their independent reading book.  They will be given a number of questions to choose from and will be asked to post a response on a class Padlet, the link to which can be found on Google Classroom.  All responses must be posted by Friday.

3. Alternate Ending Narrative Writing - We will be reading Ray Bradbury's "All Summer in a Day."  After examining Ray Bradbury's writing style, the students will write an alternate ending to the story, starting with Bradbury's final line.  The new ending will be typed in Google Docs and is due on Friday, 11/3.  I will be using this rubric to grade the endings.  We will also be reviewing the various types of figurative language, including imagery, similes, and metaphors, used by the author so the students can include it in their own writing.

I hope everyone has a great week.  As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
