The Grading Policy for all Social Studies Students is the same:   
30% of your grade is your combined Classwork and Homework     
70% of your grade is your Tests, Quizzes, and projects all quarter




In 8th Grade Social Studies we will be studying the following THEMES throughout the four quarters of the year:

1st Quarter:  GLOBAL PERSPECTIVES/US CONSTITUTION
The Big Ideas:  What enduring principles have made America FREE and PROGRESSIVE?  What responsibilities do I have as a citizen of the USA and the world?  What are 2018 concerns/solutions for our nation?

Students will learn about the US Constitution and ways in which Americans address conflict within our nation and around the globe.  Students will demonstrate the ability to participate in the democratic system.  They will also have to pass the Constitution Test during late October. (TBA)

2nd Quarter:    POST-CIVIL WAR RACE RELATIONS, US ECONOMICS AND INVENTIONS 1865-1917
Students will study the history of the USA from just after the Civil War, starting with the Reconstruction Era. Students will examine historical and modern cities and the infrastructure of the US. 


3rd Quarter:  HOW THE USA BECAME A WORLD POWER 1898-1945
 Students will also take a look at historical wars involving America, and the modernization of our country that started before the first world war and continued through World War II.

4th Quarter:  COLD WAR/THE POST-MODERN ERA/DC TRIP
Students will study the post-modern era, including the growth of suburbs, modern culture, the Baby Boom
generation, the 1950s-60s, and select portions of current topics including the world today. Students will prepare for the trip to Washington DC.
