Camogie and hurling champions 2018

It is with great pride that we announce that our girls have won the Offaly Cuman na mBunscoil  final for the 6th time in a row. The girls have worked hard training all year under the guidance of Ms Corcoran, Ms Kelly and Ms Dermody and took to the field against a strong St Philomenas team. There were great performances all over the field for the Killeigh girls and it was a proud captain Jane Murray who went to collect the trophy for its trip back to Killeigh.

Our boys team also have worked hard this year with their trainers Mr Phelan and Mr Breslin. After some great wins along the way they qualified for the final against Scoil Colmcille, Durrow NS. The lads from Durrow led by the talismanic Dan Ravenhill had beaten the Killeigh lads earlier in the year and were strong favourites to defend the title that they won so brilliantly last year. The Killeigh lads hadn't read the script however and threw everything they had at the opposition. Despite enjoying a slender lead at half time, no-one could relax as the Durrow lads kept coming back at us. It has been 13 years since we last won a boys hurling title and everyone committed every ounce of energy they had in order to get us over the line. The final whistle was greeted with scenes of wild celebrations and the job of collecting the Colin Dunne cup fell to team captain David Murray. This is the first time that we got our hands on this cup,  named after our late friend and colleague Colin Dunne who is still remembered in Killeigh NS with great fondness. It was a wonderful occasion and we are so proud of the boys and girls involved. There were many stars for Killeigh on the day but a special word of praise must go to John Greene who worked so hard to limit the influence of one of Durrow's best players.

We wish to thank the following people:
  • St Philomenas and Durrow NS for two great sporting games
  • our many supporters who created a great atmosphere on the day
  • match officials Richie Fitzsimons and Kieran Dooley and their umpires and linesmen
  • Offaly Cuman na mBunscoil and in particular secretary Declan Ward
  • staff who have supported us throughout the year
  • our  Parents Association who kindly sponsored a post match celebration in Supermacs
  • Eileen and Helen Purcell for washing our jerseys
  • Groundsmen of O'Connor park
  • our local GAA and camogie clubs for their support and best wishes
  • our resident photographer Mary Byrne whose pictures can be found below
