Port Aransas, TX - Part I

Well, we have been in idyllic Port Aransas for almost a week. We are enjoying the calm and laid back atmosphere while we can. "Spring Break" will be upon us in a few weeks and we hear the town and beaches will be overrun with partying and sun worshiping college students.  Make sure to check for more pictures in mid March.  So far we have met a few of our neighbors in the RV park and when we rode into town to watch the Mardi Gras parade. Port A is a small enough town that our main mode of transportation is our bikes. The only time we have used the car so far was to go over the ferry to Aransas Pass so we could have a wider variety of snacks to choose from for happy hour.

As for the weather, up until today, it has really lived up to "another rotten day in paradise"  with shorts and tee shirts the uniform of choice. This morning, the wind began blowing around 40 knots. It is supposed to lighten up this afternoon, but is still blowing pretty hard.  The RV park's community fish fry has been rescheduled until next Saturday due to today's inclement weather.

Our bikes have been our primary mode of transportation and main form of exercise. Our favorite place to ride is on the beach. Sometimes, it can get a little hairy when one of us hits a spot of soft sand or a car needs to pass but, other than that, we can ride for miles watching the surf (and people watching, too). I'm sure we'll have tons to watch in a few weeks when the beaches will be packed with Spring Breakers camping.

This weekend was the Whooping Crane Festival. A bit of a disapointment as it is geared towards bird watchers (which we are not).  Sorry Lisa, no Whooping Crane Princess 2012!

More to post later. Cocktails await.
