Chetwyn - Chainsaw Sculpture Competition

Imagine what they could do with a jackhammer?

While stuck in Dawson Creek, we read about the world class chainsaw sculpture competition in nearby (Ok it was 60 miles away) Chetwynd. We took a ride. This high point of the ride was the bridge across the Peace River (that's really the name).

The carvings were astounding! There were 8 or 9 entrants out of hundreds that applied. According to the guy that ran the bucket loader (he should know), it's the number two chainsaw sculpture competition in the world. Number 1 is in Germany. Here is a collage of some of the sculptures in various stages of completion.

Once they completed their sculptures, the performed a 'fast carve'. They were given a stump and 1 1/2 hours to do something. Here is a transformation of one of my favorites.

Wind Turbine Generator Farm

A few miles out of town, high on a ridge, is a collected of wind powered generators. They are tall, majestic, and beautiful. They make an errie whooshing sound when you are near them.
