Below are 3 views of the x-rays of my shoulder.

What I did today

posted Aug 30, 2012, 7:35 PM by Bill Schlesinger

Today I took apart the harmony xbox360 remote Josh gave me. Replace the Chrystal with one from an old computer. Now the light times out and turns off like it is supposed to.
Also cleaned it thoroughly and all the buttons work better. It is now programmed to handle our Sony TV, Xbox 360 with media center extender, Xbox 360, the sound system, and our COMCAST HD box. the DOLBY works now from the Xbox 360 but not yet from the COMCAST HD box. I have found some more things to try on the WEB. There are a lot of people trying to figure out how to fix it. I just discovered that when you push menu with the box turned OFF you get an all together different menu. I will have to try some things out later.

No more 5th wheel camping

posted May 14, 2012, 7:55 PM by Bill Schlesinger

Our neat 5th wheel trailer developed a leak somewhere in the front. The Paneling on the inside starting to buckle and wrinkle.
Several panels on the outside looking wrinkled.
We took the trailer to Michigan where we bought it to see how much it would cost to repair.
turns out more than the trailer is worth. So we took it up the road to East Side Auto Parts and sold it for scrap.

Now Joshua has some place he can park his toy hauler trailer. He said we can use it to go camping in if we get the urge.
Might even get to drive the ATV around in the camp ground a little.

Life goes on.

Damn PBC

posted Mar 15, 2012, 10:07 AM by Bill Schlesinger   [ updated Apr 2, 2012, 7:36 PM ]

Dr. Martin did a fine job (ERCP) reaching my biliary tube this time with his longer scope. However he found nothing wrong there. No blockage or anything.
So I guess that means the liver is the recipient of the PBC with no help available.
Ah well back to medication and watching for any changes.

My PBC just refuses to leave me alone.
My Alkaline Phos is back up over 700.
The clinic called today and I am scheduled for another attempt at an ERCP on Tuesday the 20th of March.
Dr. Martin has me scheduled for a 4 hour procedure with a scope  down through my esophagus, stomach, and upper intestine to where the bile duct from my liver attaches to my small intestine. Here he hopes to be able to enter the bile duct and remove any obstructions found. They suspect there may be some gal stones there. They are debris collected from the bile in the duct. He may have to install a stint. Nothing known for sure until he is successful getting there and seeing what is found.

I want some extended time away from the hospitals.
I didn't want to do this but Dr. Ganger talked me into it. He said it would be better in the long run.
Well, Alkaline Faus keeps going up and down. The ERCP test passed just fine. No trouble found. I think all the tests for alternative cause has failed to turn anything up so PBC is probably pretty positive.
As soon as we can manage it we are going to hitch up and go on vacation. Veda may be on her own soon.

Weeble Wobble is almost back up.

posted Feb 21, 2012, 7:30 PM by Bill Schlesinger   [ updated Feb 28, 2012, 3:05 PM ]

I have lost my weeble wobble pictures. They are on this computer somewhere.

There you are.

Anyway breathing is a little better each day. Had an MRI today. Very rough on the breathing.
I have an appointment Friday in Skoki Illinois  for another chest xray and then to see the Dr.
While there we may be able to get some good Jewish deli stuff.
Doing my breathing exercises but Suzi says not enough. Got to keep trying.
Today 2/22/2012 I am able to pull about 1200 ml on the inspire test machine. Not sure what my goal is.
Suzi can pull 3000ml but she is a trained singer with LOTS of breath control training.
More later.
I saw Dr. Liptay and he informed us everything is looking great after the procedure. He examined both the MRCP and the chest x-ray.
Keep exercising and the bbreathing will gradually get stronger.
The lung has definitely expanded quite a bit but has more room to go.  I have a followup appointment in 3 weeks.

Latest Chest X-Ray that Dr. Liptay ordered. He informed that it shows much improvement and more expansion is expected. It is also sticking to the rib cage nicely

Today is Sunday February 26, 2012 and doing fine. Breathing easier every day. Have to push myself to exercise.  Not doing it very well and Suzi didn't nag me today.
Spent the evening yesterday with my Grand Daughters. There mom and dad were there also and made TACOs. Great stuff.
Wednesday the 29th I have an appointment to see Dr. Ganger. Learn new things then I suspect.

My PBC appears to have returned.

My Mitochondrial Antibody W/REFL titer came in today
Mitochondrial AB TITER came back posotive at 1:80 where negative is <1:20 TITER
Detailed information about what this means is here.

I believe this means my PBC is back with a vengeance. I won't know until I see Dr. Ganger.
AMAZING I have an appointment for February 29, 2012 at 3:05 pm.

A side note or observation. My Diabetes is changeing with the onset of PBC. I have noticed that I had to almost double my insulin since the AST and ALC went up.
I think the PBC is effecting my Insulin resistance. I am now taking 16 unit of Lantus instead of 9. I have also had to re-adjust the amount of Humolog per gram of Carbohydrates.
This has doubled the amount of insulin I take with meals.

I am proceeding with the lung surgery anyway just to get it out of the way. I will be checking in at the Rush Memorial Early Monday (13 February 2012) Morning.
Previously I had a biopsy done on my liver at North Western Memorial Hospital and no rejection was found.
Dr. Daniel R. Ganger, MD has requested an ultrasound to determine the status of my bile ducts to see if the PBC is coming back
Dr. Ganger added Ursodiol to my list of medications. I need a new pill box. the one I have is not big enough.
The ultra sound has been changed to an MRCP. which is an MRI with specific attention n the bile ducts.

Lung surgery is scheduled for 9:54 am as per Cmdr Spock.

Some interesting stuff about Mitochondrial antibodies
A verry detailed (and long) article about PBC and what it is.

Today is Tuesday February 28,2012. Tomorrow afternoon I have an appointment with Dr. Ganger. I will have new questions and answers after.
My PBC just refuses to leave me alone.

Off to see about Thoracic surgery

posted Feb 2, 2012, 9:21 AM by Bill Schlesinger   [ updated Feb 17, 2012, 10:54 AM ]

My pulmonary Dr. Jaime Villanueva, M.D. has referred me to  Dr. Michael J. Liptay, MD of Rush University Medical Center
I have an appointment for a CAT scan and consult at 2:20 today.
CONSULT done. I have an appointment for surgery February 13, 2012. Dr. Liptay contacted Dr. Ganger and the transplant team gave there approval.

I believe the procedure planed is Pleurodesis.  using a  Thoracoscopy or VATS  procedure

The ultrasound was scheduled for February 14th but we are going to have to reschedule that now.

I am feeling fine so far. A little short of breath. Going day by day at this point.
Take deep breaths. Deep as possible. Keap it up.

The surgery has been done. I think it went well. Entered surgery Monday morning. went to ICU after the surgery. I was transferred to the main hospital on Tuesday morning. At this pint I had two tubes in my side. One was removed on Wed afternoon and the other Thursday evening. I was discharged Friday Morning.
Yes it was a very painful surgery and recovery. I finally got off the heavy pain killers Friday morning and am now controlling the pain with Tylenol.

LuVeda has finally moved to our home in Illinois

posted Jan 22, 2012, 11:18 AM by Bill Schlesinger   [ updated Feb 5, 2012, 2:45 PM ]

She flew in a week ago. Suzi is doing OK with the change. It gets rather tense around here at times
I think Veda is rather scared about the whole operation. Not always sure about what is going on.
Of course the words here are just my impressions. May or may not be true.

I have a To-Do site for tracking what needs to be done.
I would appreciate any help offered.

I now have a web site up for Veda. She doesn't really, use it but I talk to her about it

Today February 5th I sent Suzi over to Joshua's house for a nice fondue party.
I finally got Veda's TV hooked up to satellite so she can watch her Christian stations. Veda and I are kicking around the house today.
She is doing much better and getting a little feisty. Today Veda started complaining about the dirty floor in the kitchen, so I gave her a broom and dustpan. She proceeded to sweep the kitchen and dining room. Complaining about how big our floors are. She has now wondered off to here room for some much deserved rest. I think I am rather proud of her.

Just a bit of blow by blow in my day.
