I started this because there appears to be a lot of confusion about foobar and fubar. They are NOT related.

I have known of the terms foo and bar and foobar most of my working life. Aproxematly 45 years

Almost always used in programming examples.

they show up on RFCs, This is a very informative read and If you read it you will get a lot of the history

 

Just don't confuse this with fubar which is a demolition tool. see an example of the stanly fubar.

fubar was used in the Military (by the grunts).  see here
