Untitled‎ > ‎Vocations‎ > ‎

A person who is at least eighteen years of age interested in a monastic vocation to Newark Abbey may contact the Vocation Director,vocations@sbp.org who will invite him to make several brief visits to the Abbey. Normally the first visit is for an afternoon including a brief tour followed by 5:00 p.m. community mass, 6:00 supper and 7:00 vespers.

Over time an inquirer may come for overnight visits, weekends and then for longer stays in order to discern his vocation.

Overnight visits require a letter of recommendation.

Before acceptance to candidacy, men interested in monasticism should have lived on their own, held a job, paid bills, dated, and in general have developed a good sense of a responsible adult living.

College-aged students who think they might be called to the monastic life, are encouraged to visit the monastery, and explore the possibility of life as a monk of Newark Abbey.
