The primary role of the school nurse is to support student learning. This is accomplished by implementing strategies that promote student and staff health.
Assesses health and development, provides nursing interventions, and evaluates student's responses to core.
Provides health education to students, staff, and parents.
Identifies health and safety concerns in the school environment.
Supports healthy food services programs.
Promotes health and physical activity which promotes healthy behaviors.
Assesses needs, provides interventions and refers students to appropriate staff or community agencies.
Promotes community involvement in assuring a healthy school.
Provides health education and wellness programs to school staff.

REASONS TO KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME
aChild has as a temperature over 100 degrees. (Must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.)
aChild has vomited or had repeated diarrhea within the last 24 hours. (Must be symptom free for 24 hours before returning to school.)
aChild has any untreated communicable disease. (Pink eye, strep throat, chicken pox, etc..)
aChild has head lice. SB-L has a “no live bug” policy. Student must be lice/nit free to be in school. If sent home for head lice, student must be checked by nurse before returning to school.
