Sweet Briar College Community Youth Dance Teachers for Fall 2017- Spring 2018

     Teacher Bios:


      Taylor Jefferson '19  

Taylor Jefferson, from Winston-Salem, North Carolina transferred to Sweet Briar College last year as a sophomore and will be graduating with the class of 2019 with a BA in Dance, and is pursuing a Master of Teaching Degree from SBC with a licensure in dance PK-12. She has danced ever since the young age of 2 and decided, in her words that “there’s nothing I’d rather do than share my love for such a creative and expressive art!”  Taylor has studied jazz, tap, hip-hop, modern, ballet and pointe, with her specialty being ballet and modern. She says she is looking forward to this upcoming year and very excited to be fulfilling my dream by teaching alongside my many talented classmates!








             Olympia LeHota '20

Olympia LeHota is from Asheville, North Carolina. She returns to Sweet Briar College as a sophomore double major in dance, art history, and is working towards her arts management certificate. Olympia has been dancing for five years within her high school and college, plays the cello, and in 2015 competed in the Scholastic Regional AA Championships at Western Carolina University in North Carolina. Her in Colorguard team took home first place. Known for her optimistic attitude and ability to work with all ages, Olympia is excited to get to know her students as she co-teaches this year. 

                 





                Haylei Libran '20

Haylei Libran is a sophomore from southern California. She is a dance major and theater minor. She danced and performed for five years with the West African dance group the Awkaaba Dance Troupe, in the Bay Area. Haylei has studied ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop and for 15 years. She especially loves West African dance technique and says that the drums and rhythm to it never fail to excite students and “get them moving!” She believes that African Dance is great way to introduce her students to a new culture and learn a style of dance that influences jazz, rock and hip-hop, in both music and dance. Haylei has had experience working with children of different ages in her work as a camp counselor.

          





                       Rachel Rogers'18


Rachel Rogers is from New Kent, Virginia. A senior at Sweet Briar College, she will graduate with a B.F.A degree and major in dance, after having completed two performances that she will direct and choreograph, her B.F. A. concert in September 2017, and her senior dance concert in February 2018. Rachel is active in many different SBC clubs, such as a community service club and the dance club, and somehow still finds time and energy to be a varsity field hockey player. Rachel completed a 2017 summer internship with a Sweet Briar alumna, Marilen Sarien at Sarien’s Artinspired Center in Newport News, VA. Rachel was assistant teacher of Creative Dance for 4-5 at SBC CYD Program during 2016-2017.







               Jordan Adams Sack '20


Jordan Adams Sack is a sophomore Musical Theatre major with a minor in dance.  From Chester, Connecticut, she has been dancing for 15 years.  For fourteen years she danced at The Dance Corner in Killingworth, CT, where she studied ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, Broadway jazz, and Irish step.  Since 2005, she has been a member of the Mulkerin School of Irish Dance.  Along with dancing at her home studio, for three years she studied Flamenco with her elementary school Spanish teacher.  When she is not dancing, she is also involved very heavily in Sweet Briar’s theater program.  This year, she is excited to be teaching Irish in the Community Youth Dance Program here at SBC.


                     Rachel Woods '20
  Rachel Woods is a sophomore at Sweet Briar College where she has been active in the dance program   and serves as Dance Office Assistant. She is dance major from North Carolina and is pursuing a Master of Teaching degree in PK-12 from SBC with licensure in dance. During summer of 2017 Rachel worked as choreographer for Christ Studios in Clayton, N.C. Active in praise dance, Rachel choreographed and danced for her church, Poplar Springs Christian, in Raleigh, and danced in Praywrite Productions in Garner, N.C. At Garner Magnet High School she was Dance Captain from 2014-2016.
