Flu Season

Flu or Influenza is a respiratory illness caused by a virus.  In the northeast Flu season typically runs from December through March.
  • Symptoms- fever >100, runny nose, cough, body aches, sore throat, fatigue
  • Protect yourself-stay healthy by getting enough sleep, eating well, getting vaccinated, and most importantly washing your hands!
  • Prevent the spread- cover your cough, discard used tissues, stay home if you are ill, and wash your hands.!
  • Flu Vaccine- provides protection from the flu by encouraging your immune system to develop antibodies to the specific strains in the vaccine.  Because the circulating viruses change every year you must receive a flu vaccine yearly.  Flu vaccine can be adminstered either by injection or nasal mist.  Your healthcare provider will help determine which is right for you.
Important Reminder- If you have a fever >100 you must remain home until  your fever resolves without the use of tylenol or ibuprofen.  When you report the absence please note that your student is out due to Influenza-like Illness.
Kennett High School Nursing Office Offers Free Flu Vaccine to Kennett High Students in the Fall!!!   More information will be made available at the beginning of the school year.  Please feel free to call the nursing office for more information 356-4350
