CMTC: The Christa McAuliffe Technology Conference is coming to Manchester! The conference runs Tuesday, December 2-Thursday December 4 and is packed full of sessions involving educational technology. There are sessions offered for beginners through experienced tech nerds (like me). I've attended the conference for the last 6-7 years and each time I leave with at least two new things to try. If you are looking for some fresh ideas please consider attending one of the days. The cost is $160/day and all information can be found at the CMTC website. Toni and I will also be hosting a table at the conference on Thursday during the Share-A-Thon to talk about using PicCollage in the classroom.

Parent Conferences: Parent conferences are a great time to show any technology projects or activities that students have been working on in the classroom. Please let me know if I can assist with ways to show any projects your students have been working on.

iPad Cleaning 101: We are about 50 or so days into school which means that there's been plenty of time for germs and other gross things to get comfortable on the iPad screens. Since student iPads have a clear screen protector, they are fairly easy to clean. They can be sprayed with common disinfecting spray and then wiped down with a paper towel. Disinfecting wipes can also be used on the screens as long as they are then dried off. We have a few bottles of spray solution in the Media Center. Please see me if you would like to borrow one to clean your class set!

FASTT Math: Last week we experienced some issues with FASTT Math not working. I know this is frustrating and I apologize. I am currently looking into an alternative to FASTT Math that works on iPads (through the web), computers, and at home! It is called Xtra Math. It is basic fact fluency with teacher functionality to track student progress. More information on Xtra Math will be coming at the December staff meeting, but feel free to check it out in the meantime! Click HERE to go to the Xtra Math website.

Tech Spotlight: Recently a third grade class finished up their Rocks and Minerals unit with each student creating a rock trading card in the Trading Cards app. These cards were a creative way for students to share the information that they have learned in their rock unit.  First graders are in the process of publishing a piece of their Small Moments writing using Book Creator. They are working on typing their moments as well as illustrating them in Hello! Color Pencil. These books will soon be finished and will be available for reading on the BMS Tech and Media website!
