Week of 10/19/15 Tech Tips and Tidbits

posted Oct 18, 2015, 5:12 PM by Melisa Scott Similar to the last couple years, students in grades 3-5 have accounts (formerly known as TypingWeb). These student accounts are managed under my teacher account. Student logins are the same as their Google accounts (without the and can be accessed through BMS School Links on the iPads. Over the summer, did a large upgrade so some things on the website look a little different. If you would like me to do a review/re-introduction of the site, sign up with my sign up link or send me an email! Students in grade 3 will be introduced to during Media Tech.

YouCanBook.Me for Parent Conference Sign Ups: Last year quite a few teachers had success with using YouCanBook.Me (the site I use for tech integration sign ups) for parent conference sign ups. I'll be offering two after school sessions if you would like to use this tool for conference sign ups this year. These sessions will be Tuesday, October 20 from 3:00-4:00 and Thursday, October 29 from 3:00-4:00. Please send me an email if you plan to attend one of these sessions so I can plan accordingly.

Teacher Websites: Thanks so much for of you that attended the PD Day website workshop. It looks like everyone has a great start to their page. I'm going to offer a "Round 2" help session where you can continue to work on your site as well as ask specific questions. We will also go over more advanced topics such as how to put a link on your page that links to a page of websites. The date for this session will be Monday, November 2 from 3:00-4:00.

Tech Spotlight:  Some fourth grades have completed Birds of Prey books using Book Creator. These books will soon be available for download from the BMS Tech and Media webpage. This is a great way to share books with families. A few second and third grades have begun using Socrative as an assessment tool. Socrative allows you to create multiple choice, true/false, and short answer quizzes with immediate feedback. Another feature in Socrative is the "Space Race" which allows students to work in teams to answer questions. So far students have used the app to answer questions about bats, beavers, and math facts. Fifth grade is wrapping up their immigration books in Book Creator. These books will also be available for download within the next few weeks.
