School Board Notes 6/15/18

At the board’s June meeting we discussed several aspects of the physical plant.  One question we are wrestling with right now is about the upper field’s underlying stability.  Over the last few years sinkholes have been opening up at a greater rate, compromising the safety of the playing surface, and our facilities personnel have been keeping up with them as much as possible by having them filled in.  At the meeting we discussed whether we should take a major step in rebuilding the field, but the consensus we reached was that the cost is too great right now and so we will continue to fill in the holes as they appear.

In other discussion we decided to re-name and re-purpose the board’s Building Committee.  The new mission of the ‘Space Needs’ Committee is to determine the educational requirements of our growing student body as well as the extent to which our current space can meet them.  The committee is seeking involvement from school and community members; interested people should contact Shelley Tetrault (  The board also discussed moving forward with our chapter of the town’s Capital Improvement Plan (CIP).  Over the summer we plan to draft our chapter, prioritize our capital needs, and submit it to the town.

As we approach the end of the 2017-2018 school year the board would like to recognize the staff members who are retiring from DCS.  Thank you to Deb Boisvert (31 years of service), Sue Sanborn (19 years), Mary Spindel (18 years), Ellen O’Donnell (17 years), and Deb Trottier (9 years).  We wish you success in your next endeavors!
