At the school district’s deliberative session a couple weeks ago, the proposed budget was finalized at $13,392,614. Voters will come to the town hall on Tuesday, March 13th, to decide between this budget and the default budget ($13,345,847). The proposed operating budget is an overall increase over the current school year’s voter-approved budget of 2.1%, or $277,748.

Major increases in expenses over which the board has limited control:

· Special Education and Transportation: INCREASE $225,854

· Employee Salary and Benefits: INCREASE $160,172

· High-school Tuition: INCREASE $39,140

Significant decreases proposed by the board include:

· Computer/Network Replacement: DECREASE $15,000

· Special Education Teacher Salary: DECREASE $78,708

· Engineering and Demographics Survey: DECREASE $15,000

· Physical Plant Contracted Services: DECREASE $18,842

· Transportation: DECREASE $36,850

· Re-organization of Food Services: DECREASE $16,743

Significant increases proposed by the board include:

· Teacher staffing: INCREASE $69,382

Additionally, voters will be electing two people to the school board. Candidates are the following (in alphabetical order):
