Newly formed in the 2011-2012 school year, the International Club is comprised of a multi-national group of students who are dedicated to learning and educating others about world cultures.
One purpose is to support the foreign exchange students in becoming part of the Newport Middle and High School community by sharing their cultures in an International Awareness Day in the fall and other events throughout the year. As well as learning about other countries, it helps create greater self-awareness of one’s own country and prepares youth to be the foreigners in other countries some day. As it grows, the International Club hopes to sponsor cultural trips like Chinatown in Boston and even school vacation in Costa Rica.
This year’s foreign exchange students are: Teddy Krecji from the Czech Republic, Olivia Larsen from Denmark, Peter Lontai from Hungary and Pauline Wernet from Germany. The International Club advisors are Mrs. Kelman (Alves), Spanish teacher and Mrs. Urban, Social Studies.
