Choral Council Updates:

Fall 2017:

Welcome back to your new school years!

My first note is to encourage you to visit the new NH Choral Blog by visiting nhmea.org, clicking councils then Choral Council. I will be updating the blog more often than we see Quarter Notes - hopefully my occasional musings will be helpful to you! There will also be a comprehensive list of web choral resources, information on upcoming choral events and more.

From the council, we are working hard on our newest project to develop guidelines for selection of conductors and repertoire for NHMEA Honor Choirs, beginning with the middle school festivals. There is currently a proposal on the table to significantly change the choral format at our middle school district festivals - potentially creating more opportunities for your students. Stay tuned!

With AJ Coppola moving formally into the role of All-State Elementary Honor Chorus Chairperson, our elementary choral representative spot on the council is vacant. If you are interested in getting involved in this way, please e-mail Josh at joshua.desrochers@me.com.

My theme right now is "Best Year Ever" because I'm excited about several things on the horizon, but also because I'm hoping the enthusiasm will catch! There are two potential opportunities this October to get your students in a room with "Ball in the House" a great local contemporary a cappella group. Look for information on the annual "Voices of the 603" festival and also for the Tri-M events that will run concurrently with the annual October Music Fest in Manchester. In January, Anthony Trecek-King of the Boston Childrens' Chorus (and one of my personal favorite of our recent All-State conductors) will conduct the Mixed Chorus at the annual Granite State Invitational Music Festival hosted this year by Salem High School. (For more information, reach out to Sheila Cuneo the choral manager.)

I look forward to sharing more and more information with you online - visit often!  Have a fantastic fall!

Best wishes,

Josh Desrochers, Choral Council Chair
