Vice President       Greg Cooper

Secretary               Stanley Gluza

SATS/EAF Marines,

Another Meeting/Reunion has passed.  Historic Philadelphia was a great location.  The city’s major tourist attractions were within walking distance or available using affordable public transportation.  Many members brought their family and used the reunion as a vacation or at least the part of a vacation.  The majority of the attendees were off each day taking advantage of the sites and activities offered close to the hotel.  Our Association Reunion/ Meeting Schedule included a reception buffet the first night, Friday evening a social gathering and Saturday we had the Association Meeting and the dinner dance.  A list of the members at the 07 Reunion/Meeting is included in this newsletter.  A summary of the Association Meeting Business is as follows:

OLD BUSINESS:

Member History Forms:  We had discussed a course of action at the last meeting but we had unable to complete the action.  Greg Cooper volunteered to take the lead.  He and Jim Begley will work on it and take action.  A form will be developed to provide a base for each member's data.  The data gathered will allow other members to identify Marines they were stationed with way back when.

The Election of Officers again has been a landslide for the Incumbents.  Unfortunately, no one was interested in running for Office.  The current Officers agreed to remain in office for another year.  The only Officer not at the end or beyond their term limit was the President.  The Association needs support by members to represent the whole.  Get involved and run for an office.  That ensures a more representative leadership.

Association member’s widows were a topic last year and needed a bit more detail.  After some discussion we came up with the following membership title for member’s widows.

Widows will become Social Affiliate Members.  Member provisions include continued listing on the directory and member lists, receive all mailings, invitations to participate in all association activities and member discounts on fees and services.

NEW BUSINESS:

Next year’s Reunion/Meeting will be held inSan Diego, California September 4-6, 2008.
SSgt Scott Damrauer, one of our active duty 7011 members, currently stationed at MCAS MIRAMAR, San Diego has volunteered to host the event.  He has locked arrangements with the Crown Plaza Hotel located in Hotel Circle in Mission Valley.  Information on the 2008 Reunion is included at the end of this newsletter   He is collecting information for possible events and working to complete arrangements for events already selected.Jim Dwyer has volunteered to host the 2009 SATS/EAF Reunion/Meeting in Fort

Myers, Florida.  It’s still a long way off, but this gives us plenty of time to start planning a visit to the Sunshine State.  Florida certainly has no shortage of tourist activities and I’ve heard there is nothing like the Gulf Coast Beaches.

The SATS/EAF Association, again this year, has made a donation to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund.  This year’s donation was $2,000.00.  There are many worthy foundations and charities but we have thought this was one very much worth our support.  Visit their web site at www.semperfifund.org and find out why we feel they deserve our support. We have started working on another website.  Jim Begley has just sent us the website address he has set up for us.  It still is in the design phase but it looks like this will be what we are looking for and more.  The web address is:  www.sats-eaf.info  Visit it and see what you think.

Jim Stark has volunteered to help with the research and eventual purchase of Association Memorabilia.  He is very active with the Marine Corps League and was involved with the purchase of similar items for them.  It appears at first glance the prices he recalls are more reasonable than the ones we have used.

November is annual member renewal time. The 07 Memberships expire the 11th of this month.  This year there was a discussion about dues.  The rate of the annual dues will remain the same ($20.00).  Our continued efforts to fund our meeting/reunion through attendee fees has allowed us to donate to charities cover our expenses and maintain a modest balance.  I will enclose the membership form with this letter.  A list of our 07 membership is also enclosed.  We are growing and most of that growth is in our annual members.  I want to thank our members for your support.

This year we sent out newsletters and reunion notices to everyone on the directory.  With well over 300 names in the directory, it became a rather complicated, time consuming and expensive endeavor.  Many mailings were returned due to incorrect addresses.  The issue was discussed and the Association voted on the following:

All current, 2007 and 2006 members will continue to receive newsletters/reunion notices as long as a current address is available to the association to send such mailings.  It is up to each member to notify the Association of any email or address changes.

Any current or former 7011/7002 non-member may also remain on or be added to the mailing list if they express a desire to do so.  Notification must be made to one of the Association’s Officers with your current contact information.

WebMouse Notes:

The 2007 meeting was held In Historic Philadelphia and attended by 25 members and spouses.

Furthest traveled, Dick Althouse.

The weather was welcoming & ample free time was consumed visiting the nearby historic sites & attractions, not to mention shopping for the ladies!

The usual highlight was catching up with old friends, "besting" stories &, of course, telling stories on each other!
