WHAT'S NEW IN FOURTH GRADE!

Math: In Math, the fourth grade students will be learning how to multiply and divide multi-digit numbers. As the school year progresses, our class will be focused on adding and subtracting fractions. We will be learning how to convert measurements and will begin to cover the basic of geometry. 

Reading: In Reading, the fourth grade students will be working on many reading comprehension skills. At the start of the school year, we will be focusing on author's purpose, as well as, identifying main idea and supporting details. We will read many different genres of literature and will read many interesting and exciting stories. 

Grammar/ Writing: In Writing, the fourth grade students will improve on their writing skills and will learn about all of the different styles of writing. Students will write narratives, persuasive essays, and we will begin to work on informative pieces and will begin to learn how to find information on the Internet and in books. In Grammar, we will continue to enforce grammar conventions and will continue to improve on our sentence structure. 

Science: In Science, students will be focusing on Life Science, Physical Science and Earth Science. We will learn about animal and plant cells, as well as, the food chain, animal habitats and adaptations. We will learn about force and motion, simple machines, electricity, and many different types of energy. At the end of the year, we will cover Earth and planets, as well as, our atmosphere. 

STEM: Our new and exciting program at St. Andrew's is the STEM program. Throughout the year, we will use Science, Technology, Engineering and Math and will ask students to solve problems by becoming engineers and inventors. STEM also students to think critically and execute their ideas using everyday materials. 

Social Studies: In Social Studies, the fourth grade curriculum focuses on the state of New Jersey. We will begin students about early New Jersey and the first people that settled there. As the year continues, our fourth grades will learn about the American Revolution and the role that New Jersey played during that time. We will also learn some many interesting facts about our state and what makes it special. 

Religion: In Religion, the fourth grade students will continue to pray daily and practice our faith. We will be learning about the laws that God has made for us, the Ten Commandments. We will also learn about the meaning behind each of the Beatitudes.
