Only 3 days left! I hope you have had a terrific year and a wish you a wonderful Summer! It has been an absolute pleasure working with you and your children this year. We experienced a lot of change this year and managed to make through what I consider to be a very successful year.

This Week at De Portola
  • Monday: Cluster Council Meeting, 4:30pm at Serra High

Wednesday, June 13th is the last day of school! 
  •     Promotion will be from 9:30 to 11 on the blacktop south of Weiner Hall. 

Notes From the De Portola Team
  • Yearbook will stop being sold in the financial office on Wednesday, June 6th. We are only accepting cash ($40) at this time. If there are any yearbooks left, they will be sold during the Yearbook Signing Parties on Thursday, June 7th for 8th graders and Friday, June 8th for 6th and 7th graders. Everyone will attend the Yearbook Signing Parties, unless you have not been cleared with the library for checked out books or are on the LOP list.
  • Attention 6th graders- if you would like to be in ASB next year, please come get a packet from Ms. Moeller during KBAR. Packets will be due Wednesday, and we will interview on Thursday.
  • 7th grade students: There are very, very limited spaces still available for the 2019 East Coast Trip to NYC and DC. See Ms. Sheehan in room 712 or email her at jsheehan@sandi.net for more information. Don't miss out on this amazing opportunity!
  • Please ask your child if they have a permission slip in their backpacks for their grade level end of year activity. The permission slips were due on Friday 6/1, and we need them ASAP if your child still has one. Thank you for filling them out and returning them to Mrs. Fore.

Good evening Panthers! We are almost done!! Last week the staff suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the kids in the annual staff versus student basketball game. It was a very fun event and we appreciate all the families that made it out to see us lose!

Notes from the De Portola Team
  • Late Bus has ended! There is no more late bus service for the remainder of the year.
  • This Wednesday, May 30 at 6PM is the annual Concert On the Green presented by the Music Department on the outdoor stage. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs for wonderful end-of-year performances by all five ensembles. Music Boosters will be selling pizza and other refreshments, including $1 "Candy Grams" you can send to your favorite musician.
  • This Thursday, May 31 Kona Ice will be back between 3:00-3:40PM. All Music Students who participated in the WFC Fundraiser will be able to use their free voucher at this time, but they will be selling to anyone who would like to purchase.
  • Greetings from the Library: Textbook check-in will be during English Classes.
    • 6th grade is Wednesday May 30, 7th grade is Thursday May 31 and 8th grade is Friday June 1st. We recommend that students consider using a rolling back pack or small luggage to tote their books until their scheduled time for check-in.
    • Students with medical issues are urged to contact Ms Cindee to make arrangements. 
    • REMEMBER account must be clear to attend end of the year activities.
  • Attention 8th graders- if you want to sing or make a speech at promotion, please see Ms. Moeller at lunch. Auditions are Thursday after school.
  • Store will close for the school year on Friday.
  • This Wednesday (5/30) will be the last day to purchase your yearbook online. If you still need to purchase a yearbook after that date, you will need to do so at the financial office. Do not miss out on this opportunity!  
  • Parents of 6th and 7th grade students -- Our end of year field day will be held on Monday, June 11th. 6th grade students participate during periods 2 & 3 and 7th grade students participate during periods 6 & 7. Students will be bringing home a permission slip on Tuesday 5/29 that needs to be completed and returned by Friday 6/1. Please make sure you complete both sides! Students who have been on the LOP list two or more times this year may have lost the ability to participate in this event.
  • Attention 7th grade families! Your student is invited to go on the 8th Grade 2019 East Coast Trip to Washington, D.C. and NYC. The early bird discount has been extended until 5/30. See Ms. Sheehan or email (jsheehan@sandi.net) for more information.

  • If you have not already purchased a De Portola yearbook, now is the time to do so! You can purchase a yearbook for $40 in the Finance Office or on the DP website. Don't miss out on the fun!
  • This Wednesday, May 23, Kona Ice will be coming for the last time during lunchtime this school year. Please come support the PE Dept by purchasing a Kona Ice!
  • Math SBAC testing begins on Monday 5/21. Students will be testing in their math classrooms this week. We will have block schedule on Monday 5/21 and Tuesday 5/22 and then continue with our regular schedule Wednesday 5/23 - Friday 5/25.

  • Serra ASB is looking for 9th graders to join. If your child is interested, have them talk to their counselor. 
  • Time is running out to buy the DP yearbook. There is a limited quantity so order yours today for $40 at the finance office or on the DP website. Don't miss out!
  • It’s that time of year for promotion tryouts for singers and students who would like to give a speech. If you are an 8th grader and would like to sing, please have them come see Ms. Moeller at lunch.If you want to write a speech, please get started. It should be a reflection of their years at DP. Ms. Moeller has an outline for you to follow. The speech/song auditions are after school on 5/31.

Good evening Panthers! Last week we started state testing in 8th grade science classes and so far so good. Next week we move to English and in order to maximize your child's chance of success we would appreciate your help by sending them to school rested and fed! We will have a special bell schedule on Monday and Tuesday so if you need to pick up your child, please plan accordingly. 

Special Note: This week is staff appreciation week. Its a great time to reach out and acknowledge a member of our team that has provided a quality educational experience. Gratitude is always a good thing!

  • 7th Grade Honor Roll Students- We have your dog tags in the counseling office. Mrs. Ada has the list and tags. Stop by anytime.
  • Attention 7th grade families! Your student is invited to go on the 8th Grade 2019 East Coast Trip to Washington, D.C. and NYC. A short informational meeting will be held in Weiner Hall on May 10th, 2018 at 6pm. Sign up by May 25th and take advantage of the early bird discount.   • ELA SBAC testing starts on Monday for all grade levels. Students will be testing in their English classes during the week of 5/7 - 5/11. Please make sure your children arrive to school on time everyday!!!
  •  IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM THE LIBRARY...All library books are to be turned in the library starting May 23-25. Textbook return starts Wednesday, May 30th for 6th graders, Thursday, May 31st for 7th graders and Friday June 1st for 8th graders. All students will return textbooks during their English classes! 
  • Remember to use a rolling backpack or small luggage to transport your books. Students with medical issues can make arrangement with Ms Cindee.
  • As a reminder student library accounts must be cleared and debt free for you to attend yearbook signing event and/or end of the year activities.

Good evening Panthers! I think we should do the talent show every Friday, its a really great way to end the week! We owe a huge high five to Ms. Moeller and her awesome ASB team for putting it together! These kinds of events really help to keep the school climate friendly and fun!

Good evening Panthers! This week flew by faster than Mitchell in the 50 yard dash! Seriously though, we had a great week and it ended with a really fantastic track meet. Special Announcement: 

BOWLING FOR PANTHER$ - Come have a ball and join us for a fun, prize-filled, adult-only night of team bowling on Saturday April 28th from 3:30 - 8:00 p.m. at Kearny Mesa Bowl. The tournament will include trophies, drawings, prizes and a Live and Silent Auction. Tickets are $40 per person, or $160 per 4-person team, and include two hours of bowling, shoes, pizza, soda, a beer/beverage ticket, and dessert.  TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW AT https://foundation.deportolams.org . All proceeds will support De Portola programs.

  • Hey Panthers! We are celebrating Month of the Military Child this week by having a “Purple Up! For Military Kids” event at Chill on the Hill this FRIDAY at lunch. The color “purple” represents a combination of all branches of the military, including their colors: Air Force blue, Army green, Navy blue, Marine red, and Coast Guard blue = all combined together in the color purple. We’re asking for all students and staff to wear PURPLE this Friday to honor our military students! All students are welcome to participate in the special activities we have planned at Chill. PLUS, if you are a military student, come by the table at Chill for your special gift!
  • Parents - on Monday, you will receive a paper copy of the California Healthy Kids PARENT survey. You will also receive information via Peach Jar if you prefer to take the survey online. Please complete this survey, as it provides the school information about your opinions of our school. We will use your responses to guide family engagement and continue our collective work on enhancing positive learning environments for all students and families. The surveys are anonymous and we appreciate your support. Paper surveys can be returned to the main office or your child can return them to their KBAR teachers. Thank you!
