Hello CREW Families!

This week we celebrated our Love of Reading! Monday we held the 1st Annual Sam Hughes Storybook Character Parade. Tuesday was Favorite Read Aloud Day. Each classroom decorated their door to represent a favorite book, and we took a gallery walk on Wednesday. We hosted Guest Readers in various classrooms on Thursday, and on Friday, classroom teachers visited different classrooms to read to students during “Musical Readers.” Thank you CREW for participating in Love of Reading and inspiring our students to fall in love with literature!

We also hosted our Science Fair on Monday and Tuesday. We will be sending 15 Projects to the SARSEF: Southern Arizona Research, Science and Engineering Foundation Science Fair. I will include the students and their project titles in the next newsletter! Congratulations to every student that entered a project! Great work!

Hello CREW Families!

I would like to thank the Talent Show Committee, led by Ms. Gascho, for putting on such a wonderful show! I know I missed the live version, but from the video clips and rehearsals I was able to see, I am sure it was an entertaining, fun-filled night! Thank you Mr. Rodarte for serving as the MC! All in all, the Talent Show was a wonderful demonstration of our fantastic CREW!

Thank you for taking the time to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss their academic progress during Parent Teacher Conferences.
Students in grades 2-5 took the 2nd Benchmark Assessment this week. The data that is associated with these assessments helps teachers identify areas of strength and areas needing additional instruction for individual students. Additionally, the District Benchmark can be used as a predictor for student success on the state test, the AzMERIT. Please ask your child how their benchmark experience went and how they performed.

We will be welcoming our incoming kindergarteners next week at Kinder Round-Up. Please invite any families that have incoming kinders to attend the Round-Up on Wednesday, February 15th from 5-6pm. We will be meeting in the cafeteria to introduce the Kinder team, the curriculum and expectations, and then will be taking a school tour.

TAX CREDITS: We are still able to take Tax Credit Donations! Please take the opportunity to support our many amazing extracurricular activities that are offered to the students of Sam Hughes. Hello CREW Families!

This week we had a guest Principal. Wexler Mackey was the Principal of the Day on Monday for raising $500.00 in the Spell-a-thon. He did a wonderful job serving as Principal and helping with the Community CREW meeting. Please read his message below:

Dear CREW,
Being principal is a hard job and I didn’t even get the hard parts, but besides that it’s a lot of fun! When I was principal, I made a poster and invitation for kinder round-up. I also took a tour of the school. I went to survey the different classrooms and everyone was very good! I helped some of Ms. Patterson’s students with the school survey and it looked like they loved Sam Hughes! Sam Hughes is a wonderful place!!!
Thanks,
Principal Wexler
