The goal of the Elementary Media class is to create independent, enthusiastic, life-long learners and foster the joy of reading. We aim to create responsible digital citizens, develop creative problem solving skills through coding and makerspace, and provide an introduction to a variety of technology tools that can be used in the classroom to showcase knowledge.
Some topics we will cover during Media:
Orientation/Circulation: rules and procedures, book care, organization and location of materials
Literature Appreciation: Genres, book awards, authors and illustrators
Information Skills: Introduction/reinforcement of skills related to the use of various print and electronic resources
Technology Skills: Development of keyboarding skills, utilization of different applications, digital citizenship and coding
Your child will be assessed in media on a trimester basis. The grades will be included with your child’s classroom report card. Assessed skills will be addressed in the areas listed below (TLW=The Learner Will):
TLW be motivated, self-directed and responsible with library materials and in the library.
TLW will use technology tools appropriately to enhance learning, increase productivity and promote creativity
TLW: Develop an awareness of a variety of genres
Grades:
1 = (B) Beginning level: Demonstrates beginning understanding; Requires frequent assistance; Willing to try
2 = (D) Developing level: Understands behavior, concepts or skills; Requires some guidance; Completes tasks
3 = (S) Secure level: Understands, applies, and extends behavior, concepts, or skills; Is proficient; Demonstrates independent work habits; Self-motivated
