Trimester Grade Information

Your child will be assessed in media on a trimester basis.  The grades will be included with your child’s classroom report card. Assessed skills will be addressed in the areas listed, with the specific skills for each trimester outlined at the appropriate time.  Please remember that both Literature and Technology skills are on an ever-expanding continuum, with skills for any given semester building on the skills from the previous semester.  The specific skills to be addressed in a trimester will be outlined here at the appropriate time.

The grading skill will be as follows:

1 = (B) Beginning level:  Demonstrates beginning understanding; Requires frequent assistance; Willing to try

2 = (D) Developing level:  Understands behavior, concepts or skills; Requires some guidance; Completes tasks

3 = (S) Secure level:  Understands, applies, and extends behavior, concepts, or skills; Is proficient; Demonstrates independent work habits; Self-motivated

The Circulation Grade is based solely on the student's return of their checked-out materials.  Each time an item is not returned on the due date, it is noted in the grade book.  Generally, 2 or fewer marks (unreturned materials) will constitute a 3, while 3-4 marks will constitute a 2.  If a student has 5 or more marks for unreturned or late materials, their grade will be a 1.  If a student is not finished with a book, it still needs to be returned on the due date, with an R on a piece of paper placed on the front of the book.  The book will be renewed for the student and held for them so that they can take it again.
